Flaxes are used to create bow strings and crossbow strings. To do this, simply use the flax on a Spinning wheel, for example in Barbarian village or Seers' village. Creating a bow string requires crafting level 1 and will grant 20 crafting experience per bow string made, however creating a crossbow string will requires level 15 and will grant 80 crafting experience, Normally the Crafting skill is only available to players with an active membership but creating things with flax is an exception to this.
The most common place to pick flax is the flax field in Seers' village, just south of Camelot. There is also a flax field south-west of Rellekka.
